Diagnosis of allergies in dogs and cats

The diagnosis of allergies is a complex process which is based on studying the clinical history of each patient. Our objective is to give support to clinical diagnosis, through serological tests which determine the levels of circulating IgE capable of joining different environmental allergens.

Environmental screening

This represents the first step to giving support in clinical diagnosis of atopic dermatitis in dogs and cats. It is based on the determination of specific IgE antibodies to 24 separate allergens in two groups:

  • Indoor allergens: These include dust mites, storage mites, fungi and fleas.
  • Outdoor allergens: These include the most common grass, weed and tree pollens in our geographical area.

Sample required: 1 ml of serum/ plasma.

UNITEST allergen panel (24 allergens)

This allows the allergens involved in atopic dermatitis to be identified. It incorporates a combination of new monoclonal antibodies which recognise up to 3 different epitopes of the IgE.

Allergens included within the UNITEST panel.

Grass pollensWeed pollensTree pollensMitesFungi
Timothy Sorrel Birch D. farinae Penicillium
Cocksfoot Plantain Olive D.pteronyssinus Aspergillus
Rough-stalked meadows-grass White ash Cypress T. putrescentiae Alternaria
Bermuda grass Taraxacum Banana L. destructor Flea
Ryegrass Parietaria   A. siro Malassezia spp

Sample required: 1ml of serum/ plasma

Specific outdoor panel

After obtaining a positive result for the OUTDOOR group of allergens in the SCREENING test you can choose the most suitable panel.

We offer you the option of making up a specific panel from 12 specific OUTDOOR allergens.

The 12 allergens are:

GRASS POLLENSWEED POLLENSTREE POLLENS
Timothy Sorrel Birch
Ryegrass Plantain Olive
Bermuda grass White ash Cypres
  Taraxacum Banana
  Parietaria

Sample required: 1 ml of serum/ plasma.

Specific indoor panel

After obtaining a positive result for the INDOOR group of allergens in the SCREENING test you can choose the most suitable panel.

We offer you the option of making up a specific panel from 10 specific INDOOR allergens.

The 10 allergens are:

DUST MITESSTORAGE MITESFUNGIMALASSEZIA SPPFLEA SALIVA
D. farinae T. putrescentiae Aspergillus fumigatus MALASSEZIA SPP FLEA SALIVA
D. pteronyssinus L. destructor Penicillium notatum
  A. siro Alternaria alternata

Sample required: 1 ml of serum/ plasma.

Flea saliva test

This test allows specific IgE antibodies to flea saliva to be detected both in dogs and cats. Its usefulness in confirming flea bite allergic dermatitis (FBAD) has been demonstrated.

Sample required: 1 ml of serum/ plasma.

Food screening

This test allows specific IgE antibodies to certain food proteins to be detected. These are divided into two groups:

  • Allergens of animal origin
  • Allergens of vegetable origin

The most common proteins to be included in commercial diets for dogs and cats have been rigorously selected.

Sample required: 1 ml of serum/ plasma.
